Oh No, It’s Hayfever Season!

Anyone who suffers from hayfever knows how difficult it is to function during the pollen season.

It is the cause of an estimated 3.2 million sick days annually.  “Hay fever affects up to 30 per cent of adults in the UK and 40 per cent of children”, according to Allergy UK. The itchy eyes, runny noses and sneezing fits that often come with the allergy leave almost 4 in 10 struggling to do their job.

In a bid to lead a more normal life, 85 per cent try to manage their hay fever misery with antihistamines, with 44 per cent using a nasal spray and 31 per cent turning to eye drops.

Yet, 84 per cent admitted they still experience hay fever symptoms even when taking their medication.

WHAT IS HAYFEVER?

Hay fever is usually hereditary and is the result of an intelligent immune response that’s over-reacting and when the histamine response is over-active, it is called an allergy.

Histamine is a central nervous system transmitter that has many functions including cognition, memory, endocrine balance, wound healing, sleep/wake cycle and cell growth.

Histamine also has the ability to stimulate blood flow to the mucus membranes as part of an overall immune response to physical triggers such as pollen. This is the root cause of sneezing, tears, and mucus production – an intelligent response of the body to move allergens away from the body where they are causing irritation.

TREATMENTS – Antihistamines

Antihistamines are drugs commonly used to treat allergies and also travel sickness, colds, flu and insomnia.

Antihistamines are most helpful for reducing itching and nasal discharge but don’t always have much impact on congestion. They have limited use in treating eye symptoms caused by allergies.

Many adults I see who take antihistamines regularly report extreme fatigue and brain fog. Memory issues and poor concentration make it hard for them to function at work. This drowsy side effect is from first-generation ‘drowsy’ antihistamines but also second-generation ‘non-drowsy’ antihistamines. This is because certain antihistamine drugs are metabolised through the liver. If taken frequently, or alongside other drugs metabolised through the liver, this can be a further cause of tiredness and irritability.

TREATMENTS - Natural

There are lots of natural treatments that can be effective with no side effects;

TREATMENTS - Homeopathy

Homeopathy is different. Homeopathy treatment does not suppress symptoms in the way that antihistamines do. Homeopathic remedies help to go deeper and support the individuals immune system. Rather than just suppressing symptoms, it stimulates the body’s ability to self heal and bringing into balance the body's intelligent response to allergic triggers.

Research conducted by the US National Library of Medicine showed that  Individualized homeopathic treatment was associated with significant alleviation of hay fever symptoms…’ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27211328/

MY HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT STRATEGY

Generally people ask for help with their hayfever during the summer months when they are experiencing symptoms. Acute homeopathic treatment is useful during the pollen season to reduce symptoms and increase energy.

 Homeopathy for the individual:

·      Sneeze & sneeze & sneeze & sneeze – there is a remedy for you!

·      Itchy throat and ears – there is a remedy for you!

·      Sore itchy eyes – there is a remedy for you!

·      Blocked stuffy nose – there is a remedy for you!

However, I also give a course of treatment during the winter months to reduce the individual’s chronic susceptibility to experiencing allergic symptoms in advance of the pollen season, in addition to constitutional treatment to strengthen overall health.

‘Hi Laura, She actually didn’t take anti histamine today, only Homeopathy and she felt fine. I think we have a breakthrough! So pleased! xx

If you or your loved ones suffer from hayfever symptoms, are concerned about the side effects of antihistamines

and want to find out more about how homeopathy could help you, feel free to get in touch.

As a side note, here is an interesting podcast from a horticulturist on why hayfever seems to be getting worse due to climate change:

It all begins with an idea.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
